At Hohentübingen Castle eigtht department collections are on display: those of Early and Late Prehistoric and Medieval Archaeology, Ancient Near East Philology, Egyptology, Classical Archaeology with the Numismatic Department, as well as the Plaster Cast Collection. These are a part of the greater body of the Museum of the University of Tübingen MUT´s 47 collections.
Hohentübingen Castle presents around 4,600 exhibits on 2,000 m2 of space. The aims of the collections and exhibits are to further the education of the University’s students and to serve the scientific community, but also to allow the general public access to the departments and their treasures. The collections are therefore equally at the disposal of research, teaching and the education of the general public.
This volume features some of the earliest artworks of humankind such as the famous Vogelherd Horse presented on the cover. This publication is meant to give each visitor an impression of the rich treasures of the University of Tübingen and illuminate their international significance.
