Dr. des. Annika Vosseler (MUT) besuchte die University of the Witwatersrand am 18. November 2025, um die Zusammenarbeit zwischen der CIVIS Alliance und ihren sechs afrikanischen Partneruniversitäten aktiv voranzutreiben. Im Mittelpunkt stand die Frage, welche Einrichtungen sich als neue Partner*innen für das Museum University Forum (MUF) eignen könnten – und wie sich der Austausch zwischen den beteiligten Universitäten vertiefen lässt.
Der Tag begann im Origins Centre, wo Dr. Tammy Reynard eine eindrucksvolle Führung durch die Ausstellung zur frühen Kulturgeschichte im südlichen Afrika bot. Die Begegnungen und Gespräche dort eröffneten bereits die ersten spannenden Perspektiven auf die Sammlungslandschaft der Wits University.
Im Anschluss gaben Dr. Sifelani Jirah und Dr. Job Kibii am Evolutionary Studies Institute (ESI) Einblicke in die paläontologischen und archäologischen Bestände. Das gemeinsame Mittagessen bot Raum für vertiefte Gespräche, bei denen sich schnell zeigte, wie viele Anknüpfungspunkte für zukünftige Kooperationen bestehen.
Am Nachmittag führte Prof. Francesca Parini durch das Life Sciences Museum / Herbarium der School of Animal, Plant and Environmental Studies und stellte gemeinsam mit den beiden Kuratoren Prof. Dr. Rafael De Almeida und Dr. James Harrison die vielfältigen zoologischen und botanischen Sammlungen vor.
Zum Abschluss des Besuchs empfingen Dr. Samia Chasi und Alison Simons im Wits International Office zu einem Gespräch über mögliche Formen der Zusammenarbeit und Vernetzung innerhalb von CIVIS.
Der Besuch bot nicht nur wertvolle Einblicke in die Vielfalt der Sammlungen an der Wits University, sondern auch wichtige Impulse für die Weiterentwicklung des CIVIS Museum University Forums (MUF) und für mögliche gemeinsame Projekte in der Zukunft.

Dr. des. Annika Vosseler (MUT) visited the University of the Witwatersrand on 18 November 2025 to deepen the CIVIS Alliance's collaboration with its six African partner universities. The focus was on identifying new partners for the Museum University Forum (MUF) and exploring ways to strengthen exchanges between participating universities.
The day began at the Origins Centre, where Dr Tammy Reynard provided an impressive guided tour of the exhibition on early cultural history in southern Africa. Even at this early stage, the encounters and discussions opened up exciting perspectives on Wits University's collection landscape.
Dr Sifelani Jirah and Dr Job Kibii at the Evolutionary Studies Institute (ESI) then offered insights into the fascinating palaeontological and archaeological collections. Lunch provided an opportunity for in-depth discussions, quickly revealing the many potential areas for future cooperation.
In the afternoon, Prof. Francesca Parini gave a tour of the Life Sciences Museum/Herbarium of the School of Animal, Plant and Environmental Studies, and together with the two curators, Prof. Dr Rafael de Almeida and Dr James Harrison, presented the diverse zoological and botanical collections.
At the end of the visit, Dr Samia Chasi and Alison Simons invited Annika Vosseler to the Wits International Office to discuss potential forms of cooperation and networking within CIVIS.
The visit provided valuable insights into the diversity of Wits University's collections and gave important ideas for the future development of the CIVIS Museum University Forum (MUF) and possible joint projects.
