August Halm Archive

As a scholar, music writer, teacher, and composer, August Halm (1869–1929) influenced the musical life in Württemberg, Bavaria, and the Free School Community of Wickersdorf in Thuringia. During his studies, Halm spent time in Munich with Josef Rheinberger and in Tübingen during the tenure of the University Music Director Emil Kauffmann. As a composer, he was initially influenced by Anton Bruckner and Hugo Wolf. Later, he adopted forms and techniques from the Baroque era. The Halm Archive at the Institute of Musicology, University of Tübingen, contains manuscripts and prints, as well as letters, books, recordings of individual works, and files from the former August Halm society.
