Silver Treasure of the University

The University of Tübingen's silver treasure includes centerpieces, ceremonial cups, the Rector's chain and two scepters of the university's founding faculties – the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Theology – from late medieval times, as well as the Rector's staff from 1812. The objects represent significant evidence of the University of Tübingen's practice of representation. Over the centuries, additional pieces were donated on the occasion of anniversaries by the ruling family of Württemberg, wealthy private individuals or even former students. These include a lidded goblet (1915) of the Countess von der Linden, an aunt of the first student at Tübingen University (1892–1895). The earliest record of endowments is found in the archives from the year 1550.
