Apostle Paul and the Money
Ancient coins between the Jewish and Graeco-Roman world
Run by the Collaborative Research Centre 1391 Different Aesthetics, the project takes a gamified approach to conveying knowledge about the diverse coinage found in places visited by the apostle Paul during his missionary journeys. At the same time, it sheds light on an aspect of early Christian communities that has received little attention to date: the handling of money.
Vernissage
The exhibition opens at June 29th, 2026, at 6 p.m. in the MUT | Ancient Cultures.
The keynote will be delivered by Prof. Dr. Brude Longenecker, W. W. Melton Professor of Christian Origins at Baylor University.
Publication
The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue of the same name, “Apostel Paulus und das Geld. Antike Münzen zwischen jüdischer und griechisch-römischer Welt” (Apostle Paul and money. Ancient coins between the Jewish and Graeco-Roman world).
