Coin Collection of Classical Archaeology

The coin collection, whose roots go back to 1798, is today one of the largest and most important university collections of its kind in Germany, with approximately 20,000 objects. The main focus is on about 8000 ancient Greek and 6000 Roman coins, in addition to 2000 medieval and early modern coins as well as 3000 medals. Particularly beautiful pieces are an archaic silver coin from Kaulonia in Lower Italy or the famous Athenian tetradrachms from the middle of the fifth century BC.

Combined with the coin collection of Islamic Numismatics, the coin collection of the University of Tübingen is the most extensive of any university.
