Hohentübingen Castle is part of the University of Tübingen and arguably the most significant historical site in the city. The more than 1,000-year history of this castle hill is closely intertwined with the history of Württemberg and the region. Among other things, the tour focuses on the colourful figure of the vengeful Duke Ulrich and his manifold love affairs. It also presents the groundbreaking discoveries of Tübingen scientists such as Friedrich Miescher, who discovered DNA in the old castle kitchen in 1869, and the exciting surveying of the young kingdom from the observatory. The connections between the Württembergs and European royalty, such as Queen Elizabeth II, are also discussed. The entertaining tour through the castle rooms and to the viewing points illustrates the significance of this place for the history of the city and the state, but also for the history of science.
