Photo Collection of Classical Archaeology

The Photo Collection of the Institute of Classical Archaeology was established in the twentieth century. It includes old and recent photographs of ancient sites as well as excavations. Many of the photos have become historic due to subsequent alterations of additions to antique sculptures and images of antiquities in exhibition spaces from the early twentieth century.

The extensive collection of black and white photographs offers an important complement for tours and guided tours in the museum as well as for teaching and research, with the aesthetic intrinsic value of the photographs playing an increasingly important role.
