Neonatological Collection

For centuries, children were treated as “little adults” before a well-founded pediatric medicine developed about 120 years ago. However, it was not until the second half of the twentieth century that neonatology, which deals with the treatment of premature and sick newborns, took off. For example, the introduction of certain techniques and technologies linked to appropriate equipment and instruments helped to noticeably improve survival and the quality of survival. Whereas in 1960, 95 percent of all infants with a birth weight below 1000 grams died, today at least 95 percent of these infants survive. The collection exists since 2001; it documents the development of neonatology by means of equipment (picture) and instruments from the late 1960s until today.
