Ceramics Collection of Medieval Archaeology

The comparison and analysis of ceramics are an important criterion for the chronological, geographical, and social classification of past cultures. Numerous unlocated sherds from the collection of Albert Kley (1907–2001) and not accurately assignable rejects from the then State Monuments Office in Tübingen served as the basis of the ceramics collection, which was established by the Department of Medieval Archaeology. In the winter semester 2008/09 the collection was organized in the context of a lecture course and partly made accessible via the internet. The collection offers a good overview of the development of ceramic objects in Southwest Germany from the Migration Period to the Early Modern Period.
