Castle Highlights
Further highlights at Hohentübingen Castle:

WINE BARREL
The oldest giant barrel of the world holds 85 000 litres. It was commissioned by Duke Ulrich in 1549. This attraction is expected to be accessible again from October 2018.

Bohnenberger Observatory
Since 1752, astronomers have been active at Hohentübingen Castle. The observatory, constructed by Johann G. F. Bohnenberger in 1814, lies at the cartographical centre point of the later kingdom of Württemberg. The observatory can be visited as of now.
Tübingen Castle Laboratory
In the “cradle of biochemistry”, the first German biochemist Carl Sigwart worked from1818 onwards; here, Felix Hoppe-Seyler designated the haemoglobin, and Friedrich Miescher also discovered the nucleic acid (DNA/RNA) here in 1869. The new, interactive exhibition is located directly at the workplace of these scientists – in the former kitchen of the castle.
Museum Shop
Everything from original gift ideas such as a wild horse replica to current publications can be found in the museum shop – all of it rounding off a visit to the museum.
Of course, all articles can be ordered comfortably via our online shop.
