Mineral Collection

The Mineral Collection presents important minerals, ores as well as gemstones from all over the world, and explains their significance for the understanding of the system Earth and for our life. In the exhibition room behind the Lothar-Meyer-Bau the following topics are presented in more than 40 glass cabinets: the diversity of minerals, ores and their deposits, applied mineralogy, fluorescence, mineral characteristics, jewelry and gem stones, minerals and “mineral water”, as well as minerals of everyday life. Significant and rare meteorites – predominantly from the 19th century – give the collection a large historic value and international standing.
